Litter and their Boxes
The Litter Robot truly revolutionizes litter box maintenance, taking the daily scooping chore off your to-do list entirely. It’s compatible with clumping litter and even works with standard kitchen trash bags if you prefer not to use the brand's custom liners. While it's not completely maintenance-free, upkeep is simple: a weekly wipe-down with a soapy rag or cleaning wipe keeps it fresh, and occasional deep cleaning ensures optimal performance. After two years of owning two units, I can confidently say—no regrets, only cleaner paws and happier days!
I also own a Meowant, and while it’s a budget-friendly alternative that gets the job done, it’s not my top pick—nor is it my cats’ preferred "doo-doo destination." Compared to the Litter-Robot 4, the Meowant feels less sturdy, holds less waste, and lacks key features like notifications or indicators for litter and waste levels. While I tend to empty it regularly enough that this isn’t a dealbreaker, the lack of these conveniences is definitely noticeable. It’s a functional option, but it just doesn’t have the same level of sophistication or ease that makes the LR4 stand out.
If you're hunting for a deal on the Litter-Robot 4, tread carefully—it's a hot item and a magnet for scammers. In my area, there’s even a guy posting it repeatedly under different usernames and numbers in the headings (maybe to track his fake profiles?). He always uses the same picture, which is a dead giveaway. Remember, if the price seems too good to be true, it probably is—run, don’t walk, away from those listings.
That said, don’t lose hope! Both my sister and a friend successfully scored great deals on Marketplace. Just make sure to vet the seller, ask lots of questions, and verify authenticity before committing. Happy hunting!
Now, let’s talk litter—because your cat’s nose is no joke! Cats have incredibly sensitive olfactory glands, so scented litter can be a major turnoff. In fact, they might dislike it so much that they find a "better" spot, like your freshly folded laundry or another soft, convenient surface. Yikes!
My top pick? Costco’s generic brand with charcoal. Not only is it fantastic for odor control (a win for both feline and human sniffers), but it also outperforms every other clumping litter I’ve tried. It’s a budget-friendly, nose-approved option that keeps everyone happy—and your laundry safe.

UPDATE;
I wanted to share an update on my experience with the Meowant litter box, and unfortunately, I’ve encountered a few significant issues. While it initially seemed like a good option, I’ve had some ongoing frustrations that I feel are worth noting.
The biggest concern, however, revolves around both of the waste doors. The inner door does not close properly to seal in odors after the first cycle, which is disappointing. More concerning, though, is that after just a month of use, I’m already having trouble getting the main waste door to stay securely closed. Despite regular cleaning, the door refuses to latch correctly. I’ve spent several minutes trying to close it properly, holding the lever to engage the latches, but it still won’t seal. As a result, the door remains unlatched by about half an inch, causing waste litter to spill out onto the floor behind the unit during the cycle.
These issues, particularly with the waste doors, are very frustrating and undermine the overall functionality of the product. I had hoped for a more reliable solution, but unfortunately, it’s fallen short.
I hope this feedback is helpful for others considering this product. It’s certainly not what I had hoped for.
